Terms of Use
Last updated: June 14, 2026
1. Acceptance of these terms
By downloading or using ScoutSash (the "app"), you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the app. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you should review these terms with a parent or guardian.
2. What ScoutSash is — and isn't
- ScoutSash is a personal study and reading companion that helps you read merit badge pamphlets offline and track your own progress.
- ScoutSash is not an official Scouting America product or service.
- ScoutSash is not an official advancement system. Checking off a requirement in the app does not mean a requirement has been officially completed or approved. Only a registered merit badge counselor and your unit's advancement process can record official completion.
- Always rely on the current official requirements and your counselor for what actually counts.
3. Intellectual property
"Scout," "Scouts BSA," "Merit Badge," "Eagle Scout," badge designs, and related names and emblems are trademarks of Scouting America. ScoutSash claims no ownership of these marks and uses references to them only to describe the app's purpose, in a nominative and unofficial way. Merit badge pamphlets and requirement text are the copyrighted property of Scouting America. Pamphlet files are downloaded from the official source to your device; ScoutSash does not host or redistribute them.
The ScoutSash name, the app's original design, layout, and code are the property of ScoutSash and its creators.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the app for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these terms.
- Attempt to reverse engineer, disrupt, or interfere with the app or its content services, except where such restriction is prohibited by law.
- Use the app to redistribute copyrighted pamphlet content in violation of the rights of Scouting America.
5. Accuracy of content
We work to keep badge information and requirements current, but requirements change and errors can occur. The app's content is provided "as is" for convenience. The official, current requirements published by Scouting America always govern. Verify anything important against the official source and your counselor.
6. No warranty
The app is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that content will always be accurate or available.
7. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, ScoutSash and its creators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, arising out of or related to your use of the app. Because the app is provided free of charge, our total liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to the amount you paid for it, which is zero.
8. Third-party links and content
The app and site may link to third-party content, including pamphlet downloads and videos hosted by Scouting America or others. We are not responsible for third-party content, sites, or services, and their availability or terms may change without notice.
9. Changes to the app and terms
We may update, change, or discontinue features of the app at any time. We may also update these terms; the "Last updated" date will reflect changes. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated terms.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, except where applicable consumer-protection law provides otherwise.
